The Department of Records and Information Management conducted a one-day induction/training for the newly promoted Records and Archives Cadres at the National Records Centre and Archives (NRCA) on 20th February 2025. “Enhancing the Records and Archives Cadre for the Transformation of the Uganda Public Service” underpins the Government’s commitment to transform the Uganda Public Service to ensure that it provides services that are effective, efficient, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the wanaichi. This calls for a more innovative approach to records and archives management that will ensure the transformation of records management from manual operations to electronic systems for efficient and effective service delivery.

The training brought together officers who perform the functions of records and archives management in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The officers were trained in roles and responsibilities, leadership skills, performance management on the Balance Scorecard, and finally in records retention and disposal. By the close of the training, participants were cautioned on the following:

  1. To implement records management standards, procedures, and follow good practices in managing public records in all formats.
  2. Timely disposal of public records of no continuing value and the transfer of archival records to the National Records Centre and Archives for permanent preservation.
  3. Maintaining ethics and integrity in their day-to-day operations as leaders.

4. Capacity-building programs to enhance their skills and competencies.
