The Hon. Minister of Public Service Meeting with Unions Representatives from the Republic of Kenya on 8th December, 2021

The Minister of Public Service, Hon. Wilson Muruli Mukasa together with MoPS technical staff meet a delegation from the Republic of Kenya led by Hon. Tom Odege, the member of Kenyan parliament and also the Secretary General of the Union of Kenya Civil Servants in Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) boardroom on the 8th December, 2021 where a lot was shared and lessons learnt.

Hon. Minister welcomed the delegation to the Pearl of Africa (Kalibu Sana) and expressed his gratitude to the visitors who chose to benchmark from Uganda. He said that, “this move is a gesture that our counterparts appreciate the way Uganda handles her employee’s relations”.

The Kenyan delegation chose to benchmark from Uganda the Management, Processes and Procedures of staff grievances within the premises of both National and International Labour Laws.

The Kenyan delegation learnt that Uganda:

  1. Has an Act of Parliament which guides labour relations in the Public Service.
  2. Has elaborate negotiation machinery with uniform pay for central and Local government workers.

Also Uganda learnt lessons from Kenya as stated below:

  1. Kenya has one major Public Service labour Union.
  2. Kenya Public Service Union has an Insurance scheme which covers all their medical expenses including treatment abroad.
