Government Strengthens Engagement with Public Service Labour Unions
The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening engagement with Public Service Labour Unions as part of efforts to enhance service delivery and improve employee welfare.
This was highlighted during a meeting between the Minister of Public Service, Gen. Katumba Wamala and leaders of various labour unions, held at NRCA, where emphasis was placed on the need for continuous dialogue, mutual respect, and constructive engagement in resolving workplace challenges.
The Minister acknowledged the vital role played by labour unions in advocating for workers’ rights, promoting accountability, and supporting good governance within the public service.
Government outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at improving working conditions, including salary enhancements, pension reforms, capacity building, and the digitalisation of human resource management systems.
Labour unions were encouraged to utilise established frameworks such as the Public Service Negotiating and Consultative Council (PSNCC) to channel their concerns through structured and evidence-based discussions.
Both Government and union leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fostering industrial harmony, promoting professionalism, and working collaboratively to build a more responsive and efficient public service.
